  • The Louisville and Jefferson County Visitors and Convention Commission is the policy-making body for the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau.  The Commission is made up of nine appointed individuals, three from the governor of Kentucky, and six from the mayor of Louisville.  An appointment is for three years, and can be renewed.

Elaine “Cissy” Musselman has served on the board since 1999.  She was appointed by then Kentucky governor Paul Patton.  She was Chair of the board in 2004 through 2006.  Musselman is Vice Chair of Risk Management Services Company (RMSC) of Louisville where she organizes, structures and administers self-insured plans and affinity programs for businesses, associations and government entities.  In 1992, Musselman became the first insurance broker in the United States to be computer-linked with the floor of Lloyd’s of London

She is the founder of Women 4 Women, Inc., a non-profit organization whose mission is to raise money and public awareness for programs serving women and girls.  Women 4 Women has become one of the most respected women’s golf tournaments and festivals in the country, donating more than $3 million for women’s causes.  Musselman has been involved with a myriad of business associations throughout her career, and has received innumerable awards and honors over the years for her dedication to community service, especially for her years of work on behalf of women and women’s issues.  Later this year, she will be awarded the Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service.  Past recipients of this award include Betty Ford, Dr. Henry Kissinger, Andrew Young, General Colin Powell and Senator John McCain.

  • KentuckyShow! is thirty minutes of breathtaking, multimedia sounds and sights that will open on Saturday, September 13 in a brand new theater at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts. KentuckyShow! is  the only presentation of its kind in the country and will excite your senses and steal your heart.

  • August 17-19, Karen Williams, Jennifer Barnett, Mark Barnes, Katie O'Bryan and Angi Van Berg exhibited at the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Annual Meeting in San Diego.  The Bureau’s booth generated a buzz as the Ryder Cup was highlighted with golf giveaways and one lucky winner received a trip for two to the Ryder Cup.

  • August 20-22, Mark Barnes and Aaron Baer will attend HelmsBriscoe’s Annual Business Conference in Orlando, Fla.

  • August 21-22, Casey Allen will conduct a site visit with a group from the Council of Chief State School Officers. The association holds over 200 meetings a year in various locations.

  • August 22, Joyce Howlett will conduct a pre-con meeting with the US Army MWR Academy/Community and Family Support Center.  Louisville will host the group, August 21 – 29.  The meeting will generate nearly $2 million for the local economy.

  • August 23-24, the Nursing Alliance Leadership Academy will be meeting in Louisville.  Lisa LeCompte and Aaron Baer will make a presentation to the group which represents multiple nursing associations.

  • Last week, five Executive Members from the Urbana Convention (hosted by InterVarsity) visited Louisville as a possible site for its 2012 convention. Nearly 20,000 college students attend Urbana which is held every 3 years, December 26 – January 1.  It represents over 29,000 roomnights and $14 million economic impact during a low demand time.  The convention has traditionally met on the University of Illinois campus, but in 2006 was held off campus for the first time, in St. Louis.  During their visit to Louisville, the site team visited KICC/Arena and KEC, as well as the four main corridors of hotels.  Because of time constraints, not all individual hotels could be toured. Instead the group was given a special group welcome from the various hotel representatives.  A special thank you to our lobby host the Executive West, Holiday Inn Hurstbourne, the Sheraton Louisville North and to the hotel representatives that welcomed us. The group appreciated the warm welcome and understands the pride the hotel community feels for the city.

  • Tourism Development hosted  its second Lunch in Louisville familiarization tour on Thursday, August 14, with a student theme.  Nine clients, representing potential overnight motorcoach business to the city,  experienced a first-hand look at what Louisville has to offer students on this whirlwind tour.  Pictured (left to right) at Louisville Slugger Field are Beanie: Free Enterprise; Brian McBride, Slugger Field; Amy Sine (Virginia); Isabelle Overstreet (Kentucky); Nicole Twigg, Bureau: Martha Terry (Missouri); Jeff Beil (Illinois); Kate Amara, Bureau; Vickie Moerman & Jen Fraker (Michigan); Louise Roth (Ohio); Deborah Hardin, (Michigan); and, Ruth Espenschied (Ohio).

  • August 20-21, Tourism Development will host Terry's Tours for a two day group leader FAM.  This is a multi-day FAM tour originating from Virginia.  The group leaders will get a chance to visit just a few attractions in hopes of bringing back overnight business to Louisville.

  • August 21-25, Cinnamon Jawor and Doris Sims will promote Louisville at the American Legion National Convention in Phoenix.  Louisville will host the American Legion, August 21-27, 2009. Over 12,000 attendees will attend that convention, generating an economic impact of nearly $10 million for the local economy.
